A few months away from a new exhibition at SeguridadExpo 2025, it is worth noting a relevant milestone for the country’s cybersecurity, since on January 2, 2025, the National Cybersecurity Agency (ANCI) began operating. The agency was born through the Security Framework Law, approved during the year 2023 in Congress.

The unanimous approval of the law, and consequently, the creation of the agency, reflect the importance for the legislature to protect Chile and its institutions from cyber risks.

Among the powers of the National Cybersecurity Agency are: oversight, regulation and sanction. This, within the framework of the institutions providing essential services, public or private.

Daniel Álvarez Valenzuela is the first Director appointed by the President of the Republic to head ANCI. Álvarez is a lawyer and Doctor in Law from the University of Chile, participated in the elaboration of the National Cybersecurity Policy of 2017, the Cyber Defense Policy in 2018, and provided technical advice in the processing of the Cybersecurity Framework Law.

ANCI will also have the power to advise the President of the Republic in the development of cybersecurity policies, plans and action programs.

With the creation of the National Cybersecurity Agency, the aim is to move forward with the creation of control and supervision mechanisms, in order to strengthen institutions. But it will not only be in charge of protecting the state infrastructure, but will also collaborate with private entities and citizens in order to create a secure digital ecosystem.

Due to the importance that cybersecurity has acquired nowadays, it is one of the thematic axes in the next edition of SeguridadExpo 2025.
